TESTIMONIALS
Interlude has quickly become recognized as a prestigious program and a “mark of excellence” for residents. Here are some testimonials from our past residents:
Sharing our artistic practices with another family in residency, and bonding over shared challenges was incredibly fulfilling, adding a deeper, more personal layer to my stay, making it a joyous and memorable experience. A unique aspect of our experience at Interlude were the catered dinners. These gatherings brought together local artists and curators, creating an atmosphere of community. Another feature that stood out to me was the kid's studio–a special space where my daughter could unleash her creativity without any constraints. Watching her enjoy her own art-making process in a space dedicated to young artists added a joyful dimension to our stay.

I felt profound validation just for being a professional artist AND mother–perhaps for the first time in my 16 years of living those dual roles.
– Arden Bendler Browning
This residency is vital. I have never felt so understood as an artist-parent. From the setting, the gorgeous studio space, and a house and resources set up for a life with kids, it really met me where I was at, as an artist. Add on to this a community of people who understand the peculiarities of your current life–what it means to make art and raise children at the same time –this was so impactful for me. It was a once in a life-time creative opportunity that I feel so grateful to have experienced.
– Christine Garvey
The amount of work that opened up as soon as I set up the studio was beyond my comprehension...it’s the cosmic stuff that lights a fire and prompts several years of work to follow. Beyond the intense and generative time I was able to spend with my work–the sort of compressed time which is incredibly rare in my life these days–I was able to connect with my son in wonderfully surprising and creative ways.
– Branden Koch
I had been aware of the many exclusions and barriers that often characterize artist residencies, but had shamefully overlooked one population of prohibited artists until I became one of them, and was subject to the lack of opportunity, support, and interest afforded to those, like myself, who are both artists and the parents/caretakers of children. It blew my mind several years ago when I learned about Interlude and its advocacy for artist parents, and was additionally baffled upon the realization that its existence was singular. I am deeply grateful for the time and space afforded to me to focus on my practice, and for the recognition and inclusion of my child within that process. The community we built will last a lifetime, and is a model I am grateful to have shared with my family.
